Put a dome over it.
Skate parks, courts and fields in Canada sit empty eight or nine months of the year. Domify retrofits a dome over the facilities a town already owns. Same park, same booking system, open in January.
Milton Sports Centre skate park
We are asking the Town of Milton to put a dome over the skate park at the Milton Sports Centre for this year. Every email below is one more resident on the list we bring to Town Hall, and one more kid with somewhere to go in January.
Bookings would run through Milton's existing parks & recreation portal (PerfectMind), the same way courts and rooms are booked today. Drop-in skating stays drop-in.
Same park. Whole year.
A dome is not a new facility. It is a retrofit over the one the town has already paid for, and it is the cheapest square footage of winter recreation a municipality can add.
Protects the asset
Concrete, courts and turf take a beating from freeze–thaw cycles, salt and plows. Covered surfaces last longer and cost less to maintain.
Somewhere to go, locally
Teenagers need a place to be in the dark months. A lit, heated skate park or court minutes from home matters for mental health and keeps kids active.
Books like it already does
No new app, no new system. Time slots run through the parks & recreation portal each municipality already uses. In Milton, that is PerfectMind.
Local employment
Attendants, coaches, lesson programs, maintenance and events: winter hours that did not exist before, staffed from the community.
Fast to stand up
Air-supported and frame domes go up over existing surfaces in weeks. Seasonal structures come down in spring if the town wants the sky back.
Pays its own way
Court rentals, leagues, lessons and event bookings in the off-season offset operating costs, the same model indoor soccer and tennis domes already run across Ontario.
What should be covered?
Choose the type of facility, name the park, and back it with your email. Backers are grouped by facility and location and brought to the municipality.
From "someone should do this" to open in January.
Pick the spot
Choose a facility type and name the park. For the Milton skate park it is already filled in.
Back it with your email
No account, no donation. Your email is your signature on the list.
It goes to council
Backers are grouped by location and brought to the municipality with a dome plan and a cost model.
Book it like always
Once it is up, hours run through the parks & recreation portal the town already has. Drop-in stays drop-in.
Add your name.
You are not signing up for anything except being counted. We only email you about the dome you backed.
- Milton Sports Centre skate park is the live campaign for this year.
- Any other park in any town works too. That is how the next campaign starts.
- Parents, skaters, coaches, neighbours: everyone counts.
You're on the list.
Carry the dome with you.
Every backer gets a card with a QR code that links to their pledge. Save it to your photos and show it at the park or at council.
Quick answers.
What kind of dome is this?
The same kind Ontario already uses for winter soccer, tennis and golf: air-supported fabric domes or steel-frame tension-fabric structures, erected over the existing surface. They are lit, heated to a comfortable working temperature, and can be seasonal (up in the fall, down in the spring) or year-round.
Who pays for it?
That is the conversation we are bringing to council. Typical models combine municipal capital budget, sponsorship, youth and recreation grants, and off-season rental revenue. Domify's job is to show up with a list of residents who want it so it gets on the agenda.
Will the skate park still be free?
Drop-in skating stays drop-in. A dome makes it possible to add bookable time for lessons, clinics and events on top, through the town's existing parks & recreation portal, but public hours stay public.
Why Milton Sports Centre first?
It is a busy, well-used park that goes quiet the day the snow lands; it already has parking, lighting and the Sports Centre next door; and Milton already runs bookings through PerfectMind. It is the easiest possible yes.
I'm not in Milton. Can I still back a dome?
Yes. Pick your facility, name your park and town, and back it. When enough people in one place want the same thing, that becomes the next campaign.
How else can I help?
Share this page with anyone who uses the park, and show up when it goes to council. A room full of parents and skaters is worth a thousand emails.
